Filming Diary

DAY 1
On Friday 4th March 2011, we went filming in Tredegar Square. The shots were outside a house, where Btisam who played Megan was leaving her house, whilst her friend was outside waiting for her. Orginally we used Rezma, who auditioned for the part as Megan's bestfriend (Brooke), however, due to personal relations, Rezma was not able to film. So we decided, to start again, using someone else to play the part of Megan's bestfriend.
Responsibilities
Amena had the responsibility of compiling all makeup and asking the actors to bring the correct costume. Whilst Haddi was in charge of getting the actors to the location on time. ID's duty that day was to make the camerawoman aware of any passerbys and noise distractions.
DAY 2
On Saturday 5th March 2011, we went to Esta's house to film the bedroom scenes. As Esta's room is quite large we used one bed for Megan and the other for Rochelle, who played the role of Sydney (the hoodrat). We wanted to show the contrast in their social class, and that people are not always as they seem. We applied make-up to Megan, to show that she's just woken up from a rough night, this shows the kind of lifestyle Megan lives. Because we didn't have enough time, we didn't get the chance to film Sydney's bedroom scene. Below are some pictures from Saturday:

Responsibilities
Esther who was our initial group member however left due to personal circumstances was in charged of makeup, Haddi was in charge of rearranging the room, Amena called the start of takes and silenced the set and ID made notes of continuity issues.

DAY 3
On Monday 7th March 2011, we sat down as a group and talked about the film, and none of us where particularly happy about they way filming was going. We decided to scrap the whole thing and start again, using more reliable actors and different locations. As it was getting closer to the deadline we planned what we would be doing in the next couple of days and we made sure we'd stick to it.

DAY 4
On Tuesday 8th March 2011, we were determined to get all our work done as it was getting closer to the deadline. Firstly we went back to Tredegar Square and re-filmed Megan leaving her house and her friend waiting outside the house for her.

Due to the sunlight affecting the direction where we were filming I had to hold up a cardboard box.

We then went to Eric Street to film Sydney leaving her house and also, meeting her friend. This showed the contrast between the two girls and what type of friends they have. Amena did the filming at Eric Street, she used a range of shots, from establishing shots to close- ups.

Later on that day, went to Haddi's house to re- film the bedroom scenes. We used the living room for Sydney and a bedroom for Megan. Amena, ID and Haddi have all done a bit of filming, we used a range of shots to make the scene more effective. We wanted to show the difference in how the two girls live, we used make- up to make Sydney look a bit rough. Unfortunately, we have no pictures for Megan's bedroom.

Responsibilities:
Haddi's responsibility was to arrange the set, taking notes of continuity issues. Amena's duty was to do both main characters makeup and fix costume according to previous shoots. ID's duty was to take charge of the set, calling takes and silencing people on set.

DAY 6
Today, when editing we had realised that we had lost footage. This is a major setback, as a lot of footage has been lost. To rectify this, we will go out, to re- film Megan leaving her house and this time play it back and make sure its on the camera. This is truly a lesson learnt, and this is a mistake that will not happen again.

DAY 7
We are currently editing what we have done so far, as we still haven't filmed because of weather conditions, and actors not bringing in their costume. Because we filmed on a sunny day, there weather hasn't been looking as good, and we want to carry our continuity. Today, both ID and Haddi have been editing both the inside and outside scenes that have been shot and Amena has been working on the production logo. Editing has been difficult as there is a lot of footage, and it is difficult to choose from the footage and put it makes it a lot more difficult as to what goes where, next time maybe we shouldn't leave the camera rolling.

DAY 8
Because the weather was looking much better, today we decided to go out filming. But because the lighting was different from Tredegar Square to Eric Street, we couldn't use this footage.
Responsibility
Amena's was the makeup artist, Haddi focused on costume  and lastly ID focused on continuity issues- costume and set.

Two weeks later
Having faced many challenges, poor weather and frequently changing our location, we have finally finished our film Opening. Changing the character costume and makeup as well of thinking of ideal locations had made our task stretch out to a long period of time.

We had changed the roles of the character because the director and producer thought it that Rochelle who was playing Chauntelle wasn't portraying her character well, she just looked like a good girl in comparison to Tisam who now plays Chauntelle and portrays the character very well.
